An incredible outpost lodge, miles up-river and surrounded by jungle.
We spent two nights here doing spotlight wildlife watches, going canoeing and fishing, and learning how hard it is to grind corn for tortillas. Could have happily spent two more; all of the activities, guides and staff were excellent, and the food was delicious.
We toured the ruins on our last morning, and were impressed by both the quality of the excavation and the ability of Christian to read the stelae inscription. The little museum also provides helpful context, and an accurate answer to the question “where did the Maya go?” They’re still here…
