After experiencing the awe of totality in 2017, I knew I had to see it again in 2024. Lucky me, it was much closer to home this time.
After poring over weather prediction maps for months, we made tentative plans to road trip over to Indiana to camp with friends from Kentucky. But, the weather about a week out made it look like it would be clear in my home state of Vermont.
So we adjusted our objective and dashed up to Danville, where a friend from high school has a house with a huge view. Thin high clouds turned up right before showtime, but overall the skies were clear. I set up a GoPro on a crane and got a nice timelapse of the shadow approaching.
I set up my main camera and tripod overlooking their pond, to try to get the mirror reflection. Didn’t quite work, but I still like the image result.
I handheld by small mirrorless with a monster 450 lens to get a shot of the corona, and again didn’t nail the focus.
Overall, 10/10 would eclipse again. Already planning for 2027 in Luxor.
