Took the train from Reno to Denver to see more of the mountains and enjoy the Amtrak experience. Twenty-six hours wasn’t so bad in a roomette with a view!

Living near to the train tracks in Truckee, I always wanted to hop aboard the Zephyr and take it across the mountains. This trip, I picked it up in Reno and rode across Nevada, Utah and Colorado, seeing some rare passes and canyons that are inaccessible by road. I put in a “bid-up” request for a sleeper, and was grateful to get it for only a few hundred bucks. The comfortable bunk and tasty meals were well worth it.

I met some colorful characters, and was mooned by innumerable rafters. Fun!
